A Classic Nor'easter

As many of you know, we had a nor'easter blow through here yesterday.  It wouldn't have been too much of a disturbance for us except that I had a doctor's appointment scheduled for 1:45 in the afternoon and the thought of said appointment was causing much stress and anxiety, I just wanted it over with.  I, unfortunately, do not like my PCP and the practice's rules and basically, the healthcare system in general but this whole thing was straight out of a Seinfeld episode so you know that appointment had to be right at the height of the storm.  If it had been in the morning, I would have been able to get it over with and move on with life.

I've learned that in order to keep my anxiousness at bay, I simply try not to think about whatever is causing the disruption of my peace of mind.  So, for example, if I have an appointment coming up, I don't think about it.  If it comes to mind, I push it out.  I move on to something pleasant. That's easy to do when there are months separating now from that appointment but when it's the week of, I have to think about it or there's a risk I'll miss it.  My stress had been building all week and that bam, sorry, snowstorm, this needs to rescheduled.

School for the girls was cancelled - the announcement came out the night before.  When we eventually rolled out of bed, the girls peeked outside and exclaimed that school had been cancelled for no reason.  It hadn't even begun to snow and the snow really wasn't too bad until lunchtime.  In the afternoon, the blizzard warning moved to our area and snow accumulated at a rate of 2-4 inches per hour.  The girls wanted to go out to play in it, even with the ferocious winds but I made them wait until the "thundersnow" had passed.  Have you ever experienced that?  It's a thunderstorm during a snowstorm.  When we first heard thunder, the girls thought it was an airplane.  "God, help us all if that's a plane."

More snow this weekend and another potential big storm Sunday night.  Snow season has arrived.  So, so thankful I haven't had to commute into the city this past week.  There was terrible ice the other day and train problems all week, including the day of (and because of) the Patriots parade.
